About My Baby Traits
My Baby Traits is a free website that helps parents and parents-to-be explore how traits like hair color and blood type are passed down, with clear explanations of what genetics can and cannot predict.
Who runs this site
My Baby Traits was founded by John, who has a long-standing interest in genetics education and in explaining science in plain language. John is not a doctor or a genetic counselor, and this site does not offer medical or clinical advice. Instead, every tool is built from published research, and each rule it uses is written out on ourmethodology page so you can check it yourself.
Why we built it
Many baby trait predictors online give a single confident answer or an exact percentage for traits that genetics cannot predict that precisely. We wanted something more honest: tools that show what is possible, explain why, and are open about their limits.
- When the genetics is well understood, such as ABO and Rh blood types, we show the possible results and their chances.
- When a trait depends on many genes, such as hair color, we show likelihood levels instead of made-up percentages.
- Every result comes with an explanation of how it was worked out.
How the tools work
Our calculators run entirely in your web browser. The traits you enter are not sent to us or anyone else, and they are not saved. There are no accounts, no cookies and no tracking scripts. You can read the details in ourprivacy policy.
Each genetics model is written as plain code and checked with automated tests, so the rules described on the methodology page match what the calculator actually does.
Where our information comes from
We rely on reliable scientific and medical sources, such as the NCBI Bookshelf, MedlinePlus, the American Red Cross, Mayo Clinic and peer-reviewed genetics research. Each tool page lists the sources it uses, and the full list is on the methodology and sources page. When the science changes or we find a mistake, we update the tool and the page date.
